Health Workers Protest in Mexico City Airport

Health workers from the State of Mexico protested at the International Airport of Mexico City to denounce lack of payment and poor working conditions. Additionally, several union groups joined the protest.

On the Mexico-Pachuca highway, health workers affiliated with Section 9 of the union joined the demonstrations. At noon, representatives of the protesters were received at the Ministry of the Interior to engage in dialogue. This led to the lifting of blockades and the normalization of traffic in the city.

Early in the morning, transporters and medical personnel blocked important access points to the capital, creating traffic chaos. Among the blocked locations were the entrances to Pachuca, Puebla, Cuautla, Toluca, and Cuernavaca, as well as important routes like Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza and Circuito Interior.

The protesters belonging to the Alliance of Autonomous Transporters of the Mexican Republic blocked the roads in protest of alleged acts of corruption by authorities of the State of Mexico government. They also demanded an end to undue deductions, lack of payments, and arbitrary changes affecting health workers.

During the blockades, greater attention was requested regarding the lack of supplies, medications, equipment, and infrastructure in the healthcare system. Despite the tension, the police of Mexico City managed to prevent a confrontation with the medical staff at a critical point of the Zaragoza roadway.
